The jury of the X Biennial of Spanish Architecture and Urbanism (BEAU) has selected the 34 finalists who will participate in this edition, to which 513 works were submitted, a hundred more than the previous average.
Among the finalists there are from public housing projects to theaters, sports facilities and even a bridge, being mostly residential buildings or cultural. Of the group, 31 are scattered around the country and three have been built abroad: in Holland, China and Germany.
The jury, composed of representatives of the Ministry of Housing and the other organizers of the BEAU institutions and by architects and architectural experts, will meet again later this month to select the award winners of Architecture, Architecture Young subsidized housing and Town Planning and Building.
The awards ceremony will take place in July during the celebration of the X BEAU at the Palais des Sobrellano de Comillas (Cantabria). The exhibition will be part of the activities organized by Universidad Internacional Menendez Pelayo.
The BEAU is an initiative of the Ministry of Housing in collaboration with the Superior Council of Colleges of Architects of Spain (CSCAE), the International University Menéndez Pelayo (UIMP), the University of Alcalá, the Official College of Architects of Cantabria (COAC) , the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP). In this edition have also joined the Foundation Caja de Arquitectos and the Municipal Housing and Land of Madrid.

Its objective is to disseminate and reward Spanish architects projects developed within and outside the country as well as foreign studies built on our territory. The selection of the most representative works executed in each biennium is collected in a traveling exhibition and catalog. This issue is addressed by the architects Luis M. Mansilla and Emilio Tuñón ZULOARK with the group as deputy directors, and has special relevance to the 20th anniversary of the first Biennial. Intended to be a turning point for this event and consolidated so as to fit the changes in society and architecture during these two decades. In addition, the tour of the exhibition and catalog for the most part agree with the Spanish Presidency of the European Union and the celebration of the Ibero-American Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism, 2010
